Last week we shared the 28 Things No One Tells You About Pregnancy, but the fun doesn’t end there! In Part 2 of our “No One Told Me..” series, women share the things they definitely weren’t expecting about giving birth!

1. WHAT IT'S REALLY LIKE WHEN YOUR WATER BREAKS 💦

“When your water breaks you can actually hear it pop.” - Jenna M.

“No one told me that when your water breaks, it CONSTANTLY gushes out of you for hours.” - Stacie P.

“No one told me that if and when your “water” breaks, that it keeps on “breaking/leaking.” - Anna O.

2. ABOUT THE BUTT CONTRACTIONS 😵

“That having a baby literally feels like you have to poop. I woulda thought the child was coming outta my bum and not my vagina.” - Dana J.

“When I went into labor it felt like extreme constipation. Everyone told me it was just intense menstrual cramps....ummm no! Haha” - Kerri B.

3. THE TRUTH ABOUT PUSHING 🕑

“I also thought I would push for minutes, but I pushed for almost 4 hours with my first. That was very unexpected.” - Samantha S.

“No one told me about getting "the shakes" after birth, but apparently it's kinda common? My legs were shaking so bad right after birth I thought something was seriously wrong!” - Kristin M.

5. THAT YOU CAN PUKE DURING DELIVERY 🤢

“No one told me that you still have to deliver the placenta and it’s worse than the 9lb baby..” - Monika A.

"No one- NO ONE told me that when being induced with pitocin the contractions are a million times worse than if I wasn't given anything and labor happened naturally. REALLY would've loved the heads up!!!!!” - Alissa K.

“The oh so painful abdominal "massages" every 2 hours after pushing a bowling ball out of your body.” - Ashley F.

“That after a C-section they have to push down on said stitches to make sure your clotting...literally the worst pain ever...in...my... friggin....life....” - Katherine I.

“When they push on your belly after birth and it feels WORSE than the birth” - Liz E.

“Yes. My first pregnancy was unmedicated too, and this part was horrid! ” - Theresa L.

10. that your face could itch 🔥

“No one told me that one of the spine blockers (not the epidural) makes your face itch like crazy and it not an allergic reaction it’s a cause from the blocker and Benadryl doesn’t help with the itching” - Jaime M.

I couldn't stop itching for two hours. I was hoping after getting the epidural I could rest for a little bit but then I couldn't stop itching lol” - Jordan A.

11. HOW JACKED UP YOUR VAG WILL TRULY BE 😭

“NO ONE talks about how swollen and jacked up your vagina is after birth!!!! Totally something I didn’t even think about while pregnant! Ha” - Carrie W.

12. THAT YOUR BIRTHING PLAN IS BETTER OFF IN THE TRASH 🗑

“That no matter what your birthing plan is be ready to toss it out the window.” - Jaime M.

13. ABOUT THAT FIRST POOP THO 💩

“Nobody warns you about the first time you try to poop after giving birth. Or how hard it can be to go pee after the catheter comes out.” - Stefanie B.

“No one told me that first time you gotta do a #2 that its literally more painful than giving birth (C-section mamma). NO ONE prepares you for that.” - Casey C.

“No one told me that I’d have to ask the nurse to wipe my ass after my first BM because I couldn’t reach due to pain of my c-section and swollen lower half.” Angela S.

14. ABOUT THE BLOOD CLOTS 🙀

“No one told me about the massive blood clots you pass after you have the baby, or when you roll over they just fall out.” Tracey B.

15. ABOUT THAT JELLY BELLY 🙈

“Nobody told me that after giving birth you would feel like you had a giant bowl of jello strapped to your belly for a few days, and the wiggling is super uncomfortable when you walk!” - Lisa P.

“No one told me that your stomach doesn’t instantly deflate back to its prior size and that you go home still looking about 25 weeks pregnant.” - Maxine K.

16. ABOUT THE BALLOON 🎈

“That sometimes you just might not dilate or efface and that there is a balloon they put in you and that this comes before you are even considered being induced ” - Brittany K.

17. ABOUT ALL THE C-SECTION BLEEDING 😑

“You still bleed like crazy with a c section!” - Quinn M.

18. HOW EMOTIONAL IT WOULD BE 😢

“No one told me how you would burst into tears when you beautiful baby is put on your chest after what felt like hours of pushing.” - Perry H.

“No one told me that I would cry uncontrollably at literally everything in the days/weeks after giving birth.” - Katie B.

19. ABOUT SPINAL HEADACHES 🤕

“No one ever mentioned spinal headache! It happens to 1 in 200 women who get the epidural and it's way worse than contractions. I couldn't sit up for a week and a half after giving birth. The pain made me cry despite taking ibuprofen. I had to deal with it because I needed to breastfeed. It started going away after taking caffeine pills and Tylenol. The pain has been the worst I've ever felt.” - Ana S.

20. ABOUT THE TAILBONE PAIN 😬

“After delivery my tailbone hurt so bad! It felt like I fell down a flight of steps!! It even hurt to set up in bed for days!” - Sarah C.

21. ABOUT ALL THE SWELLING 😾

“No one told me that your vagina get super swollen EVEN with a C-section. I was NOT prepared for that. And that it would take weeks to calm down.” - Liz S.

“No one told me that your lower half can get soooo swollen during labor that it will take weeks pp to go back to normal. That you can’t even lift your legs on your own.” - Angela S.

22. HOW PAINFUL AND DIFFICULT BREASTFEEDING REALLY IS 

How hard breastfeeding is. I think many moms assume it is easy and then give up quickly when it's not because they think they're not normal.” - Brittnie D.

“No one told me that your milk may not come in right away. It took a few days pp for my milk to come in.” - Julie J.

“That breastfeeding is difficult!” - Carrie M.

“It took about a month for me to feel no pain. LO had a good latch too.” - Jacki S.

“Breastfeeding is HARD! We’re built for it but that’s no guarantee.” - Sharon K

23. WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN IT'S YOUR SECOND CHILD 😍

“No one told me that secretly almost everyone has the fear that they won't love the second child as much as the first. (But you do) No one told me that your heart breaks a little bit when your first child walks into the hospital room to see their baby sibling and they look like a little grown up all of a sudden. Nowhere do you see your first "little" baby.” - Sharon Z.

24. ABOUT THE ANXIETY 🙁

“No one told me the immense overwhelming anxiety that comes with being a new mama bear.” - Samantha R.

“No one told me that my pp anxiety would be so bad I wouldn’t sleep AT ALL for my first 3 days home.” Angela S.

25. THAT YOU MAY DO IT AGAIN ANYWAY...🤰🏼

Despite all of this, time passes and your brain eventually convinces you that you are ready to do it all again! Seeing those sweet little faces we created, makes it worth every second! Yes ladies, our bodies are extraordinary.
